DAS eligibility

Could you be suitable
for a DAS plan?

DAS suitability depends on your Scottish residence, debts, income and whether you can make a sustainable contribution through a Debt Payment Programme.

✓ Habitually resident in Scotland✓ Affordable contribution required✓ Full circumstances assessed by an approved money adviser
🔒For people living in Scotland. Checking your options does not commit you to a debt solution.

What an adviser will look at

An approved money adviser considers your debts, income, household expenditure and ability to sustain a payment. The proposal must be realistic and capable of being maintained.

A DAS assessment should also compare other appropriate solutions so you understand the consequences before an application is made.

Residence

DAS applies to individuals habitually resident in Scotland.

Disposable income

The payment is based on the amount available after reasonable household expenditure.

Debt profile

The debts and ongoing liabilities need to be identified correctly before the DPP is proposed.

Common questions

Questions people ask before taking the next step

Can homeowners use DAS?

Yes, subject to eligibility and suitability. Homeownership does not itself prevent a DAS application.

Can I include council tax arrears?

Many arrears can potentially be included, but the precise position should be checked with an approved money adviser.

Will creditors still chase me?

Once the relevant statutory protection applies, creditors included in the DPP are restricted from separate enforcement and payment demands under DAS rules.
